Don’t be fooled by its size—while it’s possible to drive from one end of the island to the other in under two hours, Mallorca’s winding coastal roads and scenic mountain routes mean getting around can take longer than expected. Renting a car is the best way to explore, but public buses connect most major towns, Mallorca also has Uber and local taxis.
The island is a perfect mix of lively and serene. The capital, Palma, is the cultural and nightlife hub, while the northern coast is home to breathtaking spots like Sóller and Port de Pollença. Rated 9.4 on booking.com this townhouse is so aesthetic you’re never going to want to leave. With Marshall radios, skylights, and large bathtubs every detail is considered.

We’re suckers for a spa and there’s truly nothing better than relaxing in a hot tub with gorgeous views. Palm trees, rolling hills and sunshine, nothing better.
INNSiDE by Meliá Alcudia – Port d’Alcudia (£££)
INNSiDE has everything you need (including stunning beach views, 2x pools, gorgeous interiors and Balinese beds). It’s also really reasonably priced.
Barceló Ponent Beach – Cala d’Or (££)
Overlooking Platja de Cala Ferrera the beach views make this hotel skyrocket to being one of our favourites. Honestly, you just can’t beat them. Plus, the interiors are also gorgeous.

The beautiful capital city of Mallorca: Palma (and one of Reanna’s favourite cities). If you can’t decide where to stay in Mallorca, Spain then Palma is a great all-rounder.
It is close to everything you need in Mallorca, including the best transport links on the island and tons of restaurants, bars, and shops. It’s also the best place to stay if you’re into history, culture, shopping, and sampling different cuisines (the foodie scene is great!). Mallorca has a stunning cathedral, a charming old town, some lovely little boutique shops, and an excellent dining scene.
It’s ideal for couples, and solo travellers if you’re looking for city life and gorgeous beaches on your doorstep. However, it is worth noting that whilst the city beaches are lovely, there are definitely better ones around the island. Palma’s transport links are also the best on the island, so it’s also perfect if you’re wondering where to stay in Mallorca without a car.

Mallorca often has a bad reputation because of Magaluf, especially with 18-year-old UK partygoers. But, it’s built this reputation up for good reason – it’s a great place to blow off steam and enjoy the gorgeous long beaches.
If you enjoy a party atmosphere and a few drinks in a beachside bar then Magaluf is one of the best places to stay on Mallorca.

Sóller – The best place to stay in Mallorca for nature & small town lovers
Sóller is one of the most picturesque towns in Mallorca, in the heart of the Tramuntana Mountains. If you love nature, scenic train rides, and charming cobbled streets, then this is the perfect place to stay.
It has a laid-back, authentic feel with a beautiful main square, stunning mountain views, and a historic tram that takes you down to the nearby Port de Sóller – where you’ll find a lovely beach and waterfront restaurants. Sóller is also a great base for hiking and exploring the surrounding countryside, making it a great place to explore if you love the outdoors.
It’s ideal for couples, hikers, and anyone looking for a peaceful holiday surrounded by absolutely gorgeous nature.
It’s also well-connected to Palma by the famous vintage Sóller train – even if you don’t stay here, you should definitely take a ride – it’s a great experience, making it one of the best places to stay in Mallorca without a car.

It certainly has a quieter atmosphere than a lot of other spots in Mallorca and a completely different atmosphere.
It’s a favourite for yacht lovers, luxury travellers, and those who prefer a quieter yet sophisticated holiday. While the area doesn’t have a large sandy beach, you’ll find plenty of hidden coves nearby, plus breathtaking sunset views over the harbour.
Perfect for honeymooners and couples, and if you’re after a more ‘refined’ Mallorca experience, Port d’Andratx is all about relaxation, luxury, and soaking up the glamorous Mediterranean lifestyle. If this is what you’re looking for, then it’s one of the best places to stay in Mallorca.

If a long sandy beach, calm shallow waters, and family-friendly resorts sound like your kind of holiday, then Puerto Alcudia is the perfect place to stay. Located on the island’s northeast coast, it has one of the best beaches in Mallorca – stretching for miles with plenty of space for sunbathing, watersports, and beachfront dining.
This area is great for families, with many hotels catering to kids. Nearby is a charming old town with medieval streets and great restaurants. The surrounding area also has some fantastic bike routes.

If you love small, turquoise-water coves, incredible views, and a relaxed coastal atmosphere, Cala d’Or is a dream destination and the best place to stay in Mallorca. This area is known for its stunning little beaches, whitewashed buildings, and stylish marina, which give it a slightly different feel from other parts of the island.
It’s a great option for couples and families who want a quieter beach holiday, with plenty of restaurants and a charming town centre to explore. There’s also a great mix of boutique hotels and self-catering apartments, making it perfect for a more independent stay.
With its relaxed vibe, beautiful scenery, and easy access to some of Mallorca’s best beaches, Cala d’Or is an excellent choice for a laid-back island escape.

We also recommend staying near Cala Pi as it’s one of the best places to stay in Majorca. It’s one of our favourite coves on the island but, doesn’t have many hotels near it. If there’s a large group of you then Villa Gloria is perfect with a swimming pool, 4 bedrooms and a gorgeous terrace.
There’s also this gorgeous, authentic Finca Gomera – Agroturismo Hotel rated 9.5 on booking.com. It’s situated just outside of Cala Pi and has an outdoor swimming pool, hammocks to relax in, morning yoga sessions and endless views of nature.
FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions): Where to Stay in Mallorca?
Palma is, without a doubt, the best place to stay in Mallorca without a car. It is close to the central airport and has the best transport links around the island. If you don’t have a car, Sóller is also a good option, as you can take the historic train from Palma to Sóller.
It really depends on what you’re looking for! The west side is much busier with a lot of restaurants, bars, shops and hotels. However, the east side has multiple coves and smaller towns making it far more picturesque – so it really depends on what you’re looking for.
Cala d’Or is perfect for couples looking for a relaxed holiday surrounded by gorgeous coves. Owing to its natural beauty, it’s one of the best places to stay on Mallorca.
Magaluf is the obvious, and best, choice! Magaluf is the Queen (or King) of nightlife on Mallorca. With an iconic strip, superclubs, beach bars, and events running well into the early hours. You can expect big-name DJs, boat parties, and plenty of late-night antics.
Palma is a great alternative if you want nightlife but with a slightly more refined vibe. The capital has stylish rooftop bars, cocktail lounges, and vibrant nightclubs without the full-on party scene of Magaluf. Santa Catalina, one of Palma’s trendiest neighbourhoods, is a hotspot for buzzing bars and live music – we really recommend a night here, even if you’re only after a few glasses of wine.
If you’re visiting Mallorca for the first time, Palma is the best place to stay if you want to explore multiple places. However, if you want to experience the true beauty of Mallorca’s coastline, we recommend heading to the east of the island to Cala d’Or.
