Is there Uber in Mallorca? (Majorca) A 2023 Guide

Planning a trip to Mallorca and wondering if there’s Uber on the island?

Beach in Palma Nova - Uber in Mallorca

Mallorca is one of my (Reanna’s) favourite places in Europe. It’s a beautiful little island off the Spanish coast and is the largest Balearic island plus, the most popular one. Famed for its Magaluf strip, the island has so much to offer. From the incredible city of Palma that seamlessly blends old architecture and cobbled streets with little coffee shops, brunch spots and designer shops. To the little villages dotted about in the mountains and the tons of coves complete with crystal clear blue water that gives Thailand a run for its money.

When you’re planning a trip to Mallorca, the thing that often lets the little Balearic island down is its public transport or lack of it. This, leads us to the question is there Uber in Mallorca?

Is there Uber in Mallorca?

Launching in June 2023 Uber officially came to the little Spanish island! So, to the question is there Uber in Mallorca? The answer is yes! There is Uber in Mallorca. But, there are some things that are worth taking into consideration before you use it.

Types of Uber that are available in Mallorca

Comfort – A standard Uber for up to 4 people

Van – Larger vehicles for groups of up to 6 people

Comfort Reserve – More comfortable cars with top-rated drivers for up to 4 people

Taxi – Order a local taxi through the Uber app. The ride is metered so there won’t be a set price ahead of time.

Where is Uber available in Mallorca?

Uber is available on the whole island of Mallorca, but you might have to wait longer if you’re in a remote area, as opposed to Palma, Magaluf etc.

You can book an Uber via the app or on their webpage.

How much does Uber cost in Mallorca?

Uber in Mallorca, surprisingly, costs a lot more than taking a local taxi, especially when it’s on the meter. It’s not the cheap option that we’re all used to, meaning I wouldn’t actually recommend using it unless money isn’t an issue or you can’t find a local taxi or public transport.

Is Uber safe in Mallorca?

Yes, it’s safe to use Uber in Mallorca. I generally feel that Uber is a really safe way to travel, you have a documented order on your app and you can read other users’ reviews of the driver.

But, with anything, there are always risks involved especially when you’re getting into a car with essentially a stranger. So, here are a few things that we recommend doing to help you feel safer:

– Check the number plate matches the one on the app
This is a great way to ensure that you’re getting into the right car that has been previously vetted and reviewed.

– Have the driver confirm your name
Before getting in the car ask the driver to confirm your name. Your driver sees your first name in their app, and your driver’s first name is displayed to you in your app. This will confirm that they’re actually your driver. If they don’t know your name, don’t get in!

– Send your location to a friend or loved one and tell them your destination
That way, someone else can always track where you’re going and if the unthinkable did happen at least that person can call the police and tell them you’re location

– Follow the journey on your Google Maps
This way you can always double-check that the driver is taking you to your destination. You can report anything that feels suspicious to Uber within the app.

– Check the Uber driver’s rating
You’ll only see this after the Uber has been confirmed but never travel with a driver who has a low rating. Uber, for some reason, doesn’t tell you the reason why they have a low score, which is frustrating, but it’s not worth taking the risk in our opinion. You might get charged a small amount if you cancel, but it’s better to be safe.

What is the best way to get around Mallorca?

Honestly, I, Reanna, don’t drive and visited Mallorca by myself. Whilst visiting I opted to get public buses around. I based myself in Palma and didn’t have issues finding buses to tons of beautiful spots. I also got the old train to Soller one day which I would absolutely recommend.

Naturally, you don’t have as much freedom as you would if you hired a car. You also had to plan your days a bit better ahead of time. Thinking about how long you want to spend in places that are a bit more remote such as Cali Pi and checking bus times. But, overall it was easy and very budget friendly.

However, to really see the most of the island we recommend hiring a car!

If that option isn’t for you, then you can read all about how to get around Mallorca without a car here.
