Where to stay in Bohnij, Slovenia: Best Hotels in Bohinj (with Map)

Are you planning a trip to Slovenia and unsure which area to stay in at Lake Bohinj and which hotel in Bohinj?

Lake Bohinj is one of the most gorgeous areas in Slovenia. It’s also the largest natural lake in Slovenia; 60% of it lies within Triglav National Park, the only national park in Slovenia.

But, the lake isn’t the only thing to see in Bohinj, the whole area is gorgeous, packed full of hiking trails, waterfalls and unbelievable nature. Because of how large Bohinj is, it can be hard to decide where to stay and which one of the many hotels in Bohinj to choose from.

However, as always, all opinions are my own.

I’ve just spent (in June 2025) almost a week in Bohinj exploring the municipality, hiking, relaxing and staying in various spots so that I could put this guide together on where to stay in Bohinj, looking into which hotels have spas, are eco-conscious and the food that they offer. I didn’t actually realise how much I was going to fall in love with the area, but I did, instantly.

In this post, I’ll go into detail about the best hotels in Bohinj, plus which areas I think are best to stay in.

Keep reading to start planning where to stay in Lake Bohinj, Slovenia. If you are planning a trip to Slovenia and can’t decide where to go, I’ve written a full 5-day Slovenia itinerary that you can read here.

Best Areas to Stay in Lake Bohinj + Map of Bohinj

Understanding Bohinj and the various areas.

Before we dive into the best hotels in Bohinj, it’s important to understand the different areas so that you can decide which is best for you to stay in.

We will dive into each area in more detail below, but here’s a quick overview of the main areas to stay in Bohinj, so you can get a sense of the layout and gain a better understanding of the area.

An overview of Bohinjska Bistrica

Bohinjska Bistrica is a cute little spot, around an 8-minute drive on the way from Bled to Bohinj. It’s a small village home to a few cafes, hotels (including Danica Guesthouse and campsite and Bohinj ECO Hotel and Wellness.

I personally wouldn’t recommend staying in Bohinjska Bistrica unless you have a car. While Bohinjska Bistrica is connected to the rest of Bohinj via a bus, I found the buses to be very infrequent and always late. But if you do have access to one, then it’s a beautiful little spot, away from the main area of Lake Bohinj.

An overview of Ribčev Laz

Right on the edge of the eastern side of Lake Bohinj, I personally think here is the best area to stay in. With most of the hotels in Bohinj located here, it’s a wonderful area that is well connected (by Slovenian standards) to the rest of Bohinj.

Ribčev Laz is home to the Church of St. John the Baptist, the Lake Bohinj Tourist Office, a Mercator (grocery store), a kayak/SUP rental shop, several hotels and guesthouses, multiple restaurants, and, of course, little beaches where you can relax next to the lake. It also has access to multiple hiking trails. It’s also home to Vila Muhr, Hotel Bohnij, and Apartmaji Triglav and is where I spent the majority of my time.

An overview of Ukanc

Ukanc is at the opposite end of Lake Bohinj to Ribčev Laz on the western shores. Staying in Ukanc will mean you have close access to the Vogel Cable Car, Savica waterfall and many other beautiful hiking trails.

I actually found this end of the lake to be the most beautiful, it felt more untouched; however, this means that there are fewer hotel and restaurant options, and it’s also further away from other parts of Bohinj.

Hotels in Bohinj: Hotels I recommend

Danica Guesthouse & Campsite

Budget: £
Location: Bohinjska Bistrica
Spa?
No
Perfect if you: Are looking for something lowkey, with a true mountain feel

Located in Bohinjska Bistrica, on the edge of Triglav National Park, Danica Guesthouse and campsite could be mistaken for being a no-frills spot to stay. However, once you check in and notice the little details in the bedroom, the gorgeous house-plants and balconies, and once you sample the food, you’ll realise it’s actually a lot more than that.

Surrounded by spectacular mountain views, Danica Guesthouse is half of the accommodation, with the other half being a campsite backing on the gurgling Sava Bohinjka River.

Whilst it doesn’t have spa facilities or a swimming pool, it more than makes up for it with beautiful walks and a reasonable budget.

A delicious breakfast buffet is included in the price. I also enjoyed dinner at the restaurant and couldn’t fault the dishes. They even had a few really good vegetarian options, something which is always greatly appreciated.

Vila Muhr/ Hotel Bohnij: The best hotels in Bohinj

Budget: ££££
Location:
Ribčev Laz
Spa?
Yes
Perfect if you: Love luxury and impeccable service

Located in the centre of Ribčev Laz, just a stone’s throw from Lake Bohinj, Vila Muhr is the new sister hotel of Hotel Bohinj. Located next door (with full access to Hotel Bohnij’s amenities), it houses four gorgeous suites and is truly a luxurious treat.

I stayed in the Prince George suite, located on the top floor, and, oh my gosh, it’s one of the most beautiful places I have stayed.

St George suite in Vila Muhr

Every detail, and I mean every detail, has been considered within the rooms, even down to the smallest details, such as the option to choose your preferred room scent. It’s luxurious, without being in-your-face luxury for the sake of luxury. It’s understated and rooted in the surrounding nature.

The suites either come with a large bath or an in-room sauna. But, you’ll also have access to Hotel Bohnij’s sauna, and as a Vila Muhr guest, you’ll get an exclusive 2 hours of usage before the spa officially opens to hotel guests. Home to a small outdoor jacuzzi pool (because who needs a large one, when you have Lake Bohinj right in front of you), a salt room, sauna, Turkish steam room and various relaxation areas.

If you opt to stay at Vila Muhr, then you’ll also be treated to an exceptional breakfast in their private dining area, just for you and the other guests of the villa. Breakfast is served between 8-11 and is three courses, starting with a cheese board (or cold cuts and cheese for the meat eaters), followed by eggs of your choice (Eggs Benedict, Eggs Eggs Royale or Eggs with avocado) and then finished off with Kaiserschmarrn – a type of sweet, buttery scrambled pancake.

I also enjoyed dinner at the hotel a few times. As a vegetarian, I was slightly disappointed by the limited options available for a main course. However, what was on offer was 10/10. You could opt for a choice of a vegan steak, which turned out to be a Juicy Marbles steak (if you’re a vegetarian and haven’t tried one yet, or if you’re not a vegetarian, then you’re missing out), or mushroom risotto. The dessert (I opted for the crème brûlée) was also incredible. Topped off with a glass of sparkling and a dessert wine. I couldn’t have had a better meal.

There’s no doubt that Vila Muhr is the most incredible place to stay in Bohinj, but the price tag reflects this, with suites costing around £600 per night.

If you fancy staying here, but without the price tag, then Hotel Bohnij is still an incredible option with gorgeous rooms costing around £150 per night.

Both options are some of the best hotels in Bohinj.

Bohinj ECO Hotel & Wellness

Budget: ££
Location:
Bohinjska Bistrica
Spa?
Yes (extra cost)
Perfect if you: Are travelling with children and love a waterpark

Located outside of the main area of Lake Bohinj is Bohinj ECO Hotel and Wellness, the first fully eco hotel in the area. It’s a large hotel that is connected to Aquapark, a large pool area with indoor and outdoor pools, a slide, and jacuzzis. The outdoor pool is only open for the summer months, June 30th onwards, so if you’re looking to use this, make sure that you check before you go. It is also home to an adults-only wellness area, various saunas, a bowling alley, a cinema and a restaurant.

Breakfast and dinner are both served buffet style with a decent amount of choices, including fresh salads and fruits. It was personally my least favourite spot that I stayed at, as it lacked the personality of the other spots. However, I can’t dispute that it is a great spot to stay for families or those looking to spend more time around the hotel and generally using the amenities.

Apartmaji Triglav

Budget: ££
Location: Ribčev Laz
Spa? Yes (extra cost)
Perfect if you: Are looking for a place to relax, surrounded by nature, with your own kitchen

Apartmaji Triglav is actually part of the same group as Hotel Bohinj, and whilst it offers a far more relaxed spot to spend the night, the service was just as top-tier, as were the views.

Apartmaji Triglav offers a choice of studio apartments or one-bedroom apartments with or without a view. I opted for a studio and was met with a modern, very clean and comfortable spot to sleep. It didn’t offer the luxury that Hotel Muhr offers, but it did offer everything that I needed, including a little kitchen with a kettle, hob, sink, etc., a large balcony with mountain views, TV, an en-suite, a dining table and a large double bed.

Apartmaji Triglav is around a 10-minute walk from Lake Bohinj, but because of this, you’re closer to some of the other hiking trails and will be surrounded by nature.

One of my favourite views was just a couple of minutes’ walk away from Apartmaji Triglav.

Breakfast is served between 8-10 buffet style in the downstairs restaurant, overlooking the lake. There was a selection of warm bread, pastries, pancakes, eggs, some meat, cheese and fruit. Plus, of course, tea and coffee.

It was fairly basic, but done well and ideal to set you up for a day of exploring.

There’s a small spa that you can opt to pay €15 to use. Home to some saunas and a salt room. I didn’t use it, but I would imagine after a day of hiking, it would be the perfect spot to unwind.

Final thought on where to stay in Bohinj: The best hotels in Bohinj

Bohinj is a wonderful spot to visit in Slovenia, with tons of options for places to stay to suit every budget, from luxury hotels in Bohinj to hostels in Bohinj and locally run guesthouses. Each hotel that I have mentioned stands out and offers something unique, whether that’s their sustainable approach, the incredible service and facilities, or their beautiful location.

I personally recommend staying in Ribčev Laz in Hotel Bohnij, or if your budget will stretch, Vila Muhr, for a real treat. It’s well located, has wonderful facilities and offers exceptional service, all of which truly make it one of the best spots that I have ever stayed in.
