Being from Dorset, we’re lucky enough to have the New Forest right on our doorstep (or in other words, a short drive or train journey away). Complete with all of the amazing New Forest pubs. We’ve put together our favourite ones to help you decide which New Forest pubs to visit.

Our personal favourite for one reason and one reason only. The incredible roasts on a Sunday! As two vegetarians, we love the veggie option that The Huntsman offers. A mushroom and camembert wellington with spiced red cabbage and all the trimmings.

Nestled amid the picturesque landscapes of Brockenhurst, conveniently near the train station is The Huntsman. With its ivy-clad facade and rustic charm, this traditional pub has been a staple in the village for generations. The New Forest is well connected from the South of England and London. If you’re planning a visit then there are multiple ways to get to the New Forest. Including driving and the train.

The New Forest is best visited by car. If you’re planning a short trip, it’s worth hiring a car to get around to some of the trails, hikes and parks.

Getting to the New Forest From the UK

For those arriving by car, the M27 and A31 provide convenient access. From London, it’s approximately a two-hour drive, while Southampton is just a short journey away. Once within the New Forest, a network of well-maintained roads guides visitors through the winding roads and villages.

Train

Alternatively, for those opting for public transportation, the New Forest is accessible by train. The mainline railway stations at Brockenhurst and New Milton make it a great option. Frequent train services connect these stations to major cities like London, Southampton, and Bournemouth. Use The Train Line to search for the cheapest/ best options.

Getting to the New Forest Internationally

The nearest international airports to the New Forest are Bournemouth Airport and Southampton Airport. London is also, only a train journey from the New Forest. Flying into Heathrow or any other London airport is also a great option.

From the airport, you will need to board a train to the New Forest. For cheap train tickets to and from New Forest from the airports, check out Trainline. Alternatively, you can hire a car from the airport and drive to New Forest. This is approximately 2 hours from London.
