How to get from Dublin airport to the city centre

There are 5 different ways that we suggest to travel from Dublin airport to the city centre, with something to suit every budget.

Dublin Express Bus

The Dublin Express bus offers the most convenient transport option for travelling from Dublin Airport to the city centre. It’s also what we opted for during our visit to Dublin.

If you’re wondering what the cost of a taxi from Dublin airport to the city centre is then the Dublin airport to city centre bus costs just £8, this service boasts buses departing every 10 minutes, conveniently located right in front of the airport exit. The quickest journey to the city centre takes a mere 14 minutes, and with multiple stops throughout the city, you can often be dropped off right at your accommodation.

The Dublin Express operates from 03:05 am, with the first coach leaving the airport, to 00:35 am, marking the last departure. This extensive schedule means that there’s only a small window of time when the bus may not be a suitable option for your travel needs. The combination of convenience, speed, and affordability makes the bus my top recommendation over other modes of transportation.

Alternative Bus Routes to get you from Dublin airport to city centre

If you do happen to arrive at Dublin airport during the small window when the Dublin Express Bus isn’t running or if the bus happens to be full, don’t fear, there are other options! Well, one other bus.

In most cases, the Dublin Express is the most convenient option, but if you find yourself in one of the options mentioned above then the Dublin Bus route 41 runs 24/7 offering you another reliable, budget-friendly option.

Uber/Bolt/Freenow

Uber does exist in Dublin. However, apps like Bolt and Freenow tend to be cheaper, so we recommend checking all 3 before you order a car.

Expect to pay around €25 one way for an Uber from Dublin airport to the city centre. The journey should take you around 20 minutes, making it quicker than the buses just more expensive!

Taxi

If you want the ease of a public taxi then these are available from the forecourts outside both terminals at Dublin airport. Expect to pay between €30 for a taxi from Dublin airport to the city centre.

Private transfer

If you enjoy having everything planned out before you arrive then you can always arrange a private transport from Dublin airport to the city centre.

The driver will meet you in arrivals, help you with your luggage, and drop you at your hotel. All sorted! Naturally, expect to pay a higher price for this option than any of the others.

Hiring a Car

If you value the freedom and flexibility of having your own car during your time in Dublin, you have the option to rent one right at the airport terminal.

We only really recommend this option if you’re planning to travel around Ireland beyond Dublin, as (much like London and other big cities) you won’t need a car if you’re planning on just staying within the city. Instead, take advantage of the great public transport system and if you’re able, explore the city by walking around it. We find it’s the best way to really get to know a city!
