Choosing where to stay when you’re backpacking can really be hit or miss even if you do study the reviews beforehand! And finding those little hidden gems can take some time. We have spent over 3 months travelling Central America so feel we’re pretty well equipped at recommending the best places to stay throughout this incredible little continent! From the best hotels in Central America to the best hostels. If you’re travelling to Central America anytime soon then have a read of our top hotels and hostels that we’ve stayed in along the way.

Some are weird and wonderful that are only found via a shed load of research and some are just some good old hostels we thought deserved a mention for being particularly lovely.

If you are travelling to Central America then you may also enjoy reading our other blog posts on CA. You can read these here.

Zephyr Lodge, Lanquin, Guatemala

The most incredible view we have ever experienced from a hostel or hotel. Set in the lush jungle in Lanquin, Zephyr Lodge offers panoramic views from its rooms and infinity pool. A must for anyone visiting this little part of Guatemala. You can only book this hostel via their own website and payment must be done via PayPal. We usually don’t like booking in advance, but for here, it’s a must. It truly is one of the best hotels in Central America.

AmiGos, Lake Atitlan, Guatemala

Situated in San Pedro, Amigos has the most incredible lake views from each of its room’s own hammocks. Ask for a room high up for the most insane views, or if not enjoy them instead from the rooftop lounge area. If you’re on a budget then the door rooms are on the lowest level, however, they still have their own little balcony and hammock making it still well worth staying at!

Magnolia Inn Casco Viejo, Panama City

The photos for this hostel really don’t do it justice but from the moment you check-in, it’s easy to see why the hostel has such a fab score on hostel world and booking.com. The hostel has a really lovely, well-equipped kitchen complete with free coffee throughout the day and a balcony where you can sit to enjoy your food. There are tons of sofas to relax on and the rooms and bathrooms are clean and fresh feeling. The hostel is in the centre of Casco Viejo. In our eyes, the best part of Panama City is full of cute coffee shops, beautiful buildings and quirky bars.

D&D Brewery, Lake Yojoa, Honduras

A brewery, in the jungle?! Yes, that’s right a brewery hidden in the middle of a green oasis. This little place offers a mixture of dorms and private rooms and an unbeatable price. Topped off with craft beer and some awesome food.

Mayan Monkey, Tulum, Mexico

This place might have a reputation as a bit of a party hostel but you really can’t deny the abundance of facilities and cleanliness that this hostel also provides. It has an epic chill-out space, co-working area, swimming pool and bar, perfect if you’re a digital nomad looking to get some work completed during the day and meet some fellow backpackers at night. The dorm rooms were reasonably priced and had privacy curtains, a light switch and a plug by each bed. Every backpacker’s dream!

Karandi Hostel, Uvita, Costa Rica

We actually didn’t rate Uvita as a whole but this hostel really made up for it. Stepping into it honestly felt like stepping into a little oasis. The hostel was filled with herb gardens, hammocks, wild birds and a super well-equipped kitchen. The dorm rooms were cute and had a Japanese feel to them, each complete with a little balcony. At £11 each per night, in, expensive Costa Rica we’d say this hostel was an absolute bargain!
