5 Romantic European Weekend Breaks For Couples

With the most romantic day of the year fast approaching you might be thinking about what to get the love of your life to show them just how much they mean to you. Well, we can’t think of anything better than a romantic weekend away. Although, this is true for any time of the year and definitely not just true of Valentine’s Day!

If you’re thinking of spending a loved-up weekend away in one of Europe’s most romantic cities then read on to see where we think the top 5 most romantic couple city breaks are.

1. The Cotswolds

If you’re not looking to travel too far afield the top spot on your list of romantic European weekend breaks should be The Cotswolds! Quintessentially English and filled with an abundance of cute villages, cosy English pubs, castles and cobbled streets galore there’s tons for you to see and do whilst feeling like you’ve stepped into a book from the 1920s.

We recommend staying in Bourton-on-the-Water and visiting Stow-on-the-Wold, Bibury and Castle Combe for some beautiful, romantic spots.

2. Venice

The only one on this list that we haven’t actually visited together but, we couldn’t write a list without including the little romantic Italian town. Simply perfect for a romantic European weekend break. Spend your time wandering the bridges and alleyways or take a romantic gondola through the city’s canals and marvel at all of Venice’s beautiful sights. Spend the evening indulging in pasta and Italian wine. Venice really is the perfect spot romantic weekend away.

3. Cinque Terre

Another Italian spot is the incredible towns dotted through Cinque Terre. Take in all of the sites within the 5 towns of Cinque Terre; Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore. Recapture your love whilst watching the sea hit against the rocks and the sun dance behind the cliffs. Whilst you might want to wait for the weather to heat up a bit more, there’s something so special about visiting a town like Cinque Terre when you have the whole place to yourself free of all of the tourists that the peak season brings. You might want to spend a bit longer here than a weekend exploring or why not pair it with another Italian city? Instead of a romantic European weekend break, make a whole week of it! Italy is one of the best places for couples to travel in our opinion.

You can read all about our time in Cinque Terre here.

4. Bath

The historic city of Bath is known as one of the most romantic cities in the UK and it’s easy to see why. A weekend in Bath is a perfect choice to combine history, pampering at the Spa, excellent food, and a touch of romance. It’s definitely one of the best places for couples to travel.

Surrounded by verdant rolling hills, Bath is deep-rooted in history and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. Filled with a mixture of Roman history, Elizabethan and more recently (like the 1800s) became a place full of influential authors such as Jane Austin.

It’s the perfect spot if you are both lovers of history, exploring or even just curling up by a roaring fire with a good book in an awesome English pub (can you tell that we’re huge fans of these?)

5. Paris

You didn’t think that we would write a list of romantic breaks without including the city of love, did you? We visited Paris in December 2022 and absolutely fell in love with it. From the incredible boulangeries selling the most amazing pastries. to Montmartre; steeped in history and full of artists all sitting around painting works of art. To, finally the iconic Eiffel Tower sparkling at night, creating a truly romantic backdrop.

There is so much to see and do in Paris. Plus, the ability to just hop on the Eurostar from Kings Cross, London makes it a really easy, great option for a quick, romantic weekend away!

You can book the Eurostar here (or just browse their destinations or prices)
